Focus on families

FAMILIES will again be the focus for the 96th Pakenham Show this Saturday, 17 March.
Entertainment, exhibits and competitions will all be part of a busy day families will love.
Show president John Benyan said planning was on track for what no doubt would be a great show.
“Things are coming together well for a great day,” he said.
This year the day will be officially opened by longtime show contributor and current Victorian Agricultural Shows president Bob Johnson.
School children from around the Cardinia Shire have entered the school art competition under the theme of St Patrick’s Day, this year’s show falling on 17 March, the saint’s day.
A large collection of art, crafts and photography, cooking as well as fresh produce and flowers will be judged and displayed in the pavilion.
Mr Benyan said there would be a full program in the ring of horse work and show jumping and all sorts of animal judging.
“The hook and hoof competition is also a highlight for producers,” he said.
The show is not only for those who choose to compete, there is entertainment and plenty of things to do.
Children can follow the Wally Wombat Golden Trail to collect a pile of goodies.
Snakes Alive and the Birds of Prey return for another year after being popular visitors to previous shows.
Rides for the children and musical performances will also be part of the entertainment.
There will be plenty of options for lunch from the foodstalls to have a picnic on site.
Mr Benyan said even health would be a focus at the show this year, with free blood pressure and blood sugar testing services being provided by the District Nursing Service.
Families get a bargain by buying a family ticket for $25: it covers entry for two adults and children under 16 plus parking for one vehicle.
Admission for adults is $10, children 10 to 16, $5, pensioners $5 and $4 for car entry.
