Girls go to top of class

By Jim Mynard
ST MARGARET’S School principal Helen McDonald has warmly congratulated her students for their high achievement last year.
Dr McDonald said the class of 2005 deserved to feel very proud of all it had achieved.
She said the student achievements went well beyond ENTER scores and tertiary offers.
“It has been a privilege to be part of the process of educating our 2005 year 12 students,” she said.
“As we look at the facts and figures of percentage scores we applaud their talent, but in truth what we see are the personal best efforts of each.
“Each student has worked hard, has done her best and we are very proud of every one of them.”
Dr McDonald said the VCE results showed clearly that the St Margaret’s girls had topped the charts with their brilliant results.
“More than nine per cent of the students received an ENTER of 99 or more, while 29 per cent achieved scores above 95.
“Sixty per cent of the class of 2005 achieved ENTER scores of more than 85, which is in the top 15 per cent for Victoria.
“We have joint dux this year with both Hannah Foster and Maheshy Sooriyakumaran taking highest honours with ENTER scores of 99.85.
“Hannah, a humanities student also received the maximum study scores possible of 50 in English and history.”
“As school captain and with strong involvement in drama and debating, Hannah’s results should ensure her a place in the Law/Creative Arts course that she desires.
“Maheshy was an outstanding social service convener this year and was also involved extensively in the cocurricular program.
“A recipient of the Monash Prize for Excellence, Maheshy’s ability has been acknowledged through several awards in the maths and sciences.”
