Hardware giant nails spot in town

BUNNINGS is coming.
The homemaker giant’s arrival in Pakenham moved a step closer when Cardinia Shire Council recently approved a permit for the development.
Work on the store is expected to start possibly later this year.
The Bunnings Warehouse will underpin a major complex devoted to bulky goods retailing along the Princes Highway on the western approach to town.
The 3.52hectare complex will include a main sales building, timber trade area and outdoor nursery, with a total retail floor area of 11,762 square metres.
A new road will be built north of the Princes Highway to allow traffic to get to the complex, nestled beside the Michael Street commercial precinct.
Car parking space for up to 445 cars will be included in the development.
Councillors approved the permit without comment at their 11 December meeting.
A town planner’s report said there had been no objections to the development.
Cardinia Shire Council’s approval is subject to conditions, including landscaping and road engineering plans and a traffic assessment report.
A major hotel and accommodation complex and a residential development are also expected in the area in coming years.
The impending arrival of Bunnings Warehouse follows the Hardy’s Mega Mitre 10 expansion in Bald Hill Road last year.
