Hot golf for Winter Cup

BEACONHILLS Country Golf Club’s Nicki Charman and Lee James played a hot round to win the final of the 2005 ladies Winter Cup fourballbestball matchplay event last week.
In a tough battle Nicki and Lee proved too good on the day against Marilyn Ford and Jenny Browning.
In the par competition sponsored by Kelly and Griffin Golf Professionals, Greta deHoodg was the winner with square.
Sally Kunz returned from holidays to score the nearest the pin on the third and Anne Kroon won the Bgrade propin.
The ladies also congratulated junior member Laura Griffin on being selected in the Mornington Peninsula Country Team as well as Ann Felgate who has been named as the team captain.

SATURDAY COMPETITION

It was the qualifying round for the men’s Winter Cup on Saturday, 30 July on the Old course.
The winners on a countback were Ron Gracie and Bob Douglas with plusnine, however they elected not to partake in the board event.
The runners up, also on a countback, were David Coates and Mal Chambers with plusnine and they will start the Winter Cup in the first seed position.
There are 16 pairs who have qualified for the event and the final pair snuck in on a countback with plussix.
On the Lakes Course, the alternate competition was held and the winners, on a countback with plusseven, were Stuart Mills and Mick Young.
In the junior competition Marcus Drummond was the winner with nett 27.

SUNDAY COMPETITION

This was a par competition and the qualifying round of the Founders Trophy.
The winner of A grade was Mark Anthony with plusthree and Matt Mytton won B grade with plussix and will go in as the top seed for the Founders Trophy.
The eighth position in the matchplay was taken with plusone on a countback.

TUESDAY COMPETITION

This was a Stableford competition on the Lakes course.
Barry Sorrell was the winner with 39 points on a countback from the runnerup Bert Gruber.

THURSDAY COMPETITION

This was washed out and some members settled in front of the fireplace and decided that cards was the game of the day.
