Market leaves participants happy

BAW Baw Livestock Exchange’s Wednesday fat cattle market saw 713 cattle, and the Thursday cow and bull sale saw 296 cows and 28 bulls.
A total of 713 head were yarded for the week’s fat cattle sale with 108 heifers selling to weaker demand, topping at 195 cents and averaging 161.3 down 4 cents.
Three hundred steers also eased 4 cents with a top price of 195.2 and an average of 173.6.
Good quality vealers sold well on average with the top price of 227.2.
Lesser quality animals sold to 10 cents cheaper with a yarding of 293 head.
Buyers had plenty to pick from and all looked as if they came away happy with what they got.
With 324 head, Thursday’s bull and cow sale also saw prices ease on the previous week.
A total of 28 bulls topped at 197.6 cents for an average of 154.8.
Weighed cows made to 160 cents and unweighed $688.
The yard average was 137.3 or $713 per head.
