RE-ELECTED councillor Doug Hamilton has raised concerns about the media’s coverage of the Cardinia Shire election campaign.
Cr Hamilton said his main issue was with radio reporting of the campaign, but also believed the Gazette gave an “enormous amount” of newspaper space to the Cardinia Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association in the build-up to the council elections.
The Gazette over a number of weeks in the lead-up to the campaign published opinion pieces written by CRRA members and invited sitting councillors to respond.
Cr Hamilton, elected on Saturday to represent the new Port Ward, said he believed the coverage was very generous considering the CRRA had only about 150 members.
Cr Hamilton’s statement followed similar concerns expressed by other sitting councillors during the build-up to the campaign.
