Netballers storm to awards

GIPPSLAND Storm State League Netball Club crowned its best at its 2005 presentation night at the Melaleuca Lodge in Beaconsfield.
A highlight was a multimedia presentation covering the activities of the current season. The presentation covered media releases, television and radio coverage of the home game at the Pakenham Stadium and highlights of the season.

A highlight of the evening was special guest speaker Robyn Pym, who was a former senior coach of Storm and who is currently assistant coach of the Victorian 23 and under squad. She is also currently involved with Eastside netball and coaches in the championship division of state league. Robyn expanded on what was happening with state representative netball and the changes that will be implemented next year.
She also challenged the players as to why they aspired to play State League, what goals they had and why did they want to win?
Robyn touched on some coaching techniques and the mental approach to the game, which proved to be very informative and entertaining.
Seven Storm squads received awards (15 and under, 17 and under and senior squads) and each coach said how impressed they were with the development of the junior and senior squads.
Senior coach Simon O’Shanessy said that the overall development of the club had been dramatic this year, with the State League divisionone squad making the finals for the first time and the third senior squad winning the grand final in the Parkville competition at the State Netball and Hockey Centre.
Storm president Richard Prowse in an interview mentioned that the club seemed to be going in the right direction, with a constant flow of talented players being developed, which is already benefiting the broader Gippsland region.
He said the future looked bright for the club, especially taking into account the development of the growth corridor between Pakenham and Warragul.
