LA TROBE MP Jason Wood wants new home buyers to get energy grants from the Federal Government.
Mr Wood said he had written to the Prime Minister with a proposal.
“I have recommended that we consider grants to encourage first home buyers to install energy efficient systems in their new homes.
“I am proposing that the government consider a grant of up to $2500 for first home buyers to purchase a water tank and associated costs for their new home.
“I also believe that a grant of $3500 to install a gas solar hot water service would be beneficial as one third of household energy use is the hot water service.
“Both of these initiatives will of course help new home owners but just as importantly will address the water crisis issue and climate change,” he said.
