Owner shoos store bandits

By Rebecca Fraser
TWO machetewielding raiders fled a Berwick food store when the proprietor they were threatening shooed them away with a newspaper.
The men left emptyhanded after their halfhearted attempt to steal cash from the Mansfield Street Food Store last Friday night.
Police said the two men were wearing black stockings over their heads when they entered the store about 9.25pm.
When their demands were not met they fled along a dirt track beside the food store.
Police arrived on the scene almost immediately.
The men were said to be of average build and height.
No injuries were sustained.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Narre Warren CIU on 9705 3111.
