Preservation park

By Jim Mynard
THE official opening of Pioneers Park will provide the first glimpse of the new $4million community space on the site of the former Berwick Primary School.
The City of Casey is hosting the opening which will be a community event to celebrate the stunning new park.
Visitors will be able to walk around the park, see the restoration of the Old School House, take in the views at the Ellis Loveridge memorial and listen to the band playing in the new Rotary Club of Berwick Rotunda.
City of Casey chief executive officer Mike Tyler explained that Pioneers Park would be a treasured area for the community to enjoy, with the stunning Old School House to accommodate local heritage displays by the National Trust Casey Cardinia Branch and the BerwickPakenham Historical Society.
Around the Old School House are garden beds landscaped by the Australian Plant Society.
“Pioneers Park is a wonderful example of Casey and the community working together to preserve local history,” Mr Tyler said.
“This facility will become a focal point for recreational, social and cultural activities.”
The opening will be held on Sunday, 23 October at Pioneers Park, corner of Peel Street and Lyall Road, Berwick, from 24pm with the official ceremony beginning at 2.30pm.
