ROC rolls out of race

ROC reserves dropped out of the finals’ race after falling to Devon Meadows at Berwick in the first semifinal by 28 points on Saturday.
For the third time this season, ROC was beaten by the Meadows and given a lesson in finals football in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.
Devon Meadows was fast, aggressive and first to the ball in most contests and did not allow ROC to get its usual freeflowing game to work. Dave Turner tried hard, but was well contained by his closechecking opponent.
The tall forwards for the Kangaroos, who won their previous week’s contest convincingly, were unable to find any space and continually found the ball bottled up in the forward line.
ROC was made to look slow by their opponents, who ran in numbers and were prepared to work hard to ensure the Kangaroos could not work themselves into the game.
Despite kicking early goals in the final quarter and getting within four points, the Kangaroos could not go on with the job and Devon Meadows finished full of running to run out deserved winners on the day.
Scores: Devon Meadows 16.3.99 d ROC 11.5.71.
Goals for ROC: Dave Turner 3, Steve McIntyre and Jarrod Goodes 2, Rhys Nisbet, Luke Byrne, Luke McGee and Peter Quinn 1.
Best for ROC: Dave Turner, Luke McGee, Anthony Jones, Andrew Tucker and Jarrod Williams.
