Support for small farmers

By Marc McGowan
LOCAL farmers will remain well advised with the second annual Small Farming Victoria twoday field event returning at Lang Lang Showgrounds in March.
Organisers have brought the event, which is sponsored by Star News Group, forward next year to avoid the inclement weather that plagued this year’s inaugural event in May.
It will run on 3 and 4 March.
Small Farming Victoria is an initiative of the Rotary Club of KooweerupLang Lang and caters for the growing number of people on small farms throughout Victoria and interstate.
Kevin Corbett, the CEO for the event, has labelled this year’s Small Farming Victoria a huge success and is looking forward to next year’s exhibit.
“It is an event that provides information for small farmers around the shire of Cardina and general area, including seminars for experts to talk on all matters pertaining to small farms,” he said.
“We had comments from people that came through the gate, exhibitors and sponsors, that everything we did was very professional.”
Mr Corbett believes Small Farming Victoria will be even more successful next year as its advertising has expanded to cover a greater area.
“We didn’t concentrate on areas other than Cardinia and Casey this year but now we are going to areas like the Dandenong Ranges, Gippsland, and even as far as Geelong and Mornington Peninsula,” he said.
Kooweerup resident Andrew Walsh, of D and M Walsh Hardware and Farm Supplies, was an exhibitor at this year’s event and is looking forward to its return.
“We were delighted with the response from visitors to the field days and the positive exposure the event provided for our business,” Mr Walsh said.
“We will definitely be involved again next year.”
