THE team of Glenn Flowers and Marg Purcell combined well in the mixed fours championship at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
With 15 pairs competing, Glenn and Marg won both the scratch championships and handicap event with 84 (11)73.
Runnersup were Eric Robbins and Di Sullivan 86(11.5)74 .5.
Downtheline balls went to Danny Gorman and Leanne Planck with a nett 77 and John White and Jill Brenchley with a nett 78.5.
The Par overflow competition saw 78 players taking part.
The winner of Agrade was Mark Wootton (handicap nine) with +2 and runnerup was Rod Hammond +1.
Better scores came from Laurie Harris and Fred Gajdobranski, both on 1.
Geoff Ricardo (handicap 17) won Bgrade with +1 from runnerup Jack Gardiner Square. Jack Gough, Danny Burke, George Shand and Russel Seadon all finished on 1. Craig Cottier took out Cgrade with the day’s highest score of +4. Runnerup was Chris Hunt +3 followed by Con Norris on square.
Nearest to pins – second: Fred Gajdobranski, fifth (propin): Danny Burke, 14th: Eroll Hopkinson, 17th: Rod Hammond. The CCR was 73 and balls went down to 1.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
This was stroke with a field of 82 players.
Michael Langerak (13) won Agrade with 72 on a countback from Peter Devries and Rolf Loebert. Shane Dwyer and Glenn Flowers both returned with 73.
Doug Scott (19) won Bgrade with 70 from runnerup Neil Williams 71. John Denholm was next on 72 followed by Mike Mareska and Charlie Hardy both on 73.
Chris Hunt (24) won Cgrade with 73 from Max Johnson 74.
Nearest to pins – second: Barry Cunningham, 23rd (pro pin): Mick Walker.
Downtheline balls went to 74 on a countback and the CCR was 73.
THURSDAY RESULTS
The seniors’ field was smaller than usual with just 32 players. Mike Roberts won the men’s section with 17 from Brian Kemp 16.
Mildred Lyon had a win in the ladies with 15.
COMING EVENTS
This Saturday’s grand final day competition is Stableford. It is also a guest day, so invite a friend and enjoy the grand final on the big screen.
LADIES
Last Tuesday, 19 September, 34 members had to contend with the heat, a wild wind and a couple of swooping magpies to contest a Stableford event on the Matthew Bennett Course.
The day was sponsored by Jill Saxon and Leeanne Planck in conjunction with the Fisher Paykel. The CCR was 35 points.
The Agrade winner was Jill Brenchley with 38 points and the runnerup was Shirley Todd with 35 points on a countback.
Bgrade winner, with a great score of 42 points, was Sharon Rippon, who has broken her handicap to 38. Runnerup was Betsy White with 36 points.
Nearest the pin on the 19th was Dagma Forbes, there was no claim on the fifth and the propin was won by Jill Brenchley. Downtheline balls went to Karen Adams with 35 points, Ann Roberts 34 points, Fay Bastin and Sylvia Martin with 33 points each.
The Thursday seniors’ competition was won by Mildred Lyon with 15 points. Runnersup were Val Johnson and Joyce Hadfield with 14 points.
This week is Stableford and next week (3 October) will be stroke and the monthly medal.
