RESIDENTS of Beaconsfield in Tasmania, the scene of the recent mining disaster, were generous to Upper Beaconsfield after the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983.
Recent support for the stricken mining town prompted recollections that the Tasmanian Beaconsfield raised a substantial amount of money when fires swept through the local district.
The money was used to help renovate the hall which served as a refuge and centre for families who lost their homes in the fires.
