PAKENHAM Racecourse will have its final test with a set of trials next Monday before hosting its inaugural Super Jumps Race day on Sunday, 11 September.
Racing club racing manager Michael Hodge said he was expecting one steeplechase and three hurdle trials to be run after nominations close off on Friday.
The trials will start at 11am and be run under full racing conditions and Hodge was looking forward to discussing any finetuning that may be required with all parties, to ensure the exciting feature jumps meeting is a success.
It is hoped that the Super Jumps Day will become a highlight of the Pakenham racing calendar.
The meeting will be conducted in conjunction with an Equine Expo and include two feature races, the $40,000 George Watson Rookie Chasers final and the $25,000 M.J. Bourke Hurdle. The support card will include a $15,000 steeplechase and a $10,000 open hurdle event.
The Equine Expo will feature demonstrations from farriers, equine dentists, equine massage, nutritionists, alternative therapists, acupuncture and saddle fitting.
Other features planned for the day include a sixbar show jumping competition to be conducted by the Mornington Peninsula Show Jumping Club and a horse and hounds display by Melbourne Hunt Club members.
Dining packages for the day start at $77 per person with a cash bar or $99 allinclusive and minimarquee packages are also popular.
