BERWICK residents were enraged last weekend after vandals caused an estimated $10,000 damage to Pioneers Park.
Casey works and operations manager Alex Michelli said vandals went through the park during the weekend and damaged 26 trees.
Mr Michelli said they also smashed a light and a drinking fountain.
He said the council may be able to save some of the damaged trees, but many would need to be replaced.
“This type of behaviour is very disappointing and frustrating.
“Ultimately it is a cost to ratepayers,” he said.
Mr Michelli said it would be difficult to install video surveillance because Casey had 1600 parks and this would come at a great cost.
“We have reported the matter to the police,” he said.
Police said they had no lead on the people responsible.
They asked that anyone with information about the damage contact Narre Warren police on 9705 3111.
Residents walking through the park have expressed disgust at the damage and callers to the Gazette have also expressed their dismay.
