Young Brookers fight hard

GEMBROOKCockatoo’s under16 side needed a win and two players celebrating 100 games made a useful incentive. In the second quarter a good Brookers lead slipped to one point by the halftime break. But in the second half the Brookers showed the determination that may win them a finals berth.

In the last homeandaway match of the year Gembrook was looking for a strong win to prove to the opposition why it deserved to be in the finals. The team kept Belgrave scoreless with a great team effort.

The team had to win this game convincingly to ensure their best opportunity for the finals. We could not take it as an easy game. Belgrave showed some very good skills, passing and marking, but our team played their usual team game and showed great strength in all areas to end up strong winners. Solid performances in the ruck clearance and forward conversions as well as a dependable backline continued the successful recipe of the season.

Against an opposition that held second place on the ladder the young Brookers had more possession of the ball and entries inside 50 metres more than the opposition, but were unable to convert their chances into goals.

Best: Jake Mawson, Doug Misso, Dave McPherson, Jamie Kennedy, Harley Pope.
Awards: Jake Mawson, Luke Fitzgerald, James Dalgleish, Brayden Hamilton, Harley Pope, Ben Schatz, Liam Purdon.
