IT’S never too late to fall in love — just ask newlyweds Anne Game and Lyndhurst ‘Lyn’ Jenkins.
The pair were married on Sunday, just six months after they met at a meeting of the Pakenham Senior Citizens Club.
The happy bride said it was love at first sight.
“I knew from the moment I saw him,” Anne said.
“He was the youngest man in the room.”
Lyn’s feelings were similar and the whirlwind romance culminated in a simple but eloquent wedding ceremony.
“We didn’t want to live in sin,” Lyn said.
“At our age, you can’t afford to wait around too long.”
About 40 people saw the couple, who described themselves in their sixties, united by civil celebrant Tricia JusterSchofield.
Family, friends and senior citizens club members gathered for the 11am ceremony at Lilypond House.
The bride arrived by fourwheeldrive and was given away by her soninlaw Brian Shirvington. Anne’s daughter Eve and Lyn’s daughters Tracey and Debbie witnessed the marriage, while grandson Ben presented the wedding rings.
When the celebrant asked who brought the pair together, the entire congregation responded as one: “We do.”
Anne wore a powder blue gown while Lyn was resplendent in a pinstripe suit. Celebrant Tricia oversaw the couple’s simple Celtic marriage ritual which included joining their wrists with ribbon in a symbolic tying of the knot.
There was hearty applause and hardly a dry eye in the house when Anne and Lyn were declared man and wife.
Tricia, who described Anne as an ‘inspiration’, invited Lyn to kiss his bride and he responded “You beauty”.
Anne warned Lyn when she put the wedding ring on his finger that he was not allowed to take it off.
Anne’s daughter Eve Shirvington said she was thrilled to see her mother so happy.
“It was a great day,” she said.
Guests celebrated with a lunch and toasted the bride and groom.
The newlyweds are honeymooning and will make their home in Pakenham.
“They’ll probably be back at senior cits next week,” Eve said of the new Mr and Mrs Jenkins.
