FINE weather drew an increased crowd to Sunday’s Warragul trots meeting.
Racing was highlighted by the $8000 Eddie Evison Memorial Trotters Cup, won by nineyearold horse Andandon.
The cup was the horse’s 109th race start, with Andandon trained at Great Western near Stawell by leading trainer Peter Manning.
Gavin Lang took the drive behind Andandon, which held off a determined challenge from Longwarry trotter Ronerail in an exciting finish.
Another of Sunday’s features was the $6000 Traralgon Pacing Cup, which saw a boilover result with 80/1 shot Equity Jeb successful.
Trained by Scott Gill at Murchison in the Goulburn Valley, Equity Jeb wasn’t fancied by most punters, but his connections were not surprisingly thrilled by the result.
Equity Jeb, an eightyearold was running in his 135th race for his first win since October 2005.
The Jim Fawkner Memorial was won in impressive style by Western Outlaw, which has been only lightly raced and shows a great deal of potential.
Local trainer Gary Quinlan scored oneandahalf victories at the meeting with Invincible Lombo, and Shower of Roses, which deadheated in race five.
Racing returns to Warragul on Thursday, 2 March before the big Warragul Cup program on Easter Sunday, 8 April.
