MORE than 400 trucks were stopped at Officer last Wednesday as part of an annual interstate traffic operation.
Operation Austrans targets the activities and behaviour of heavy vehicle drivers.
About 25 police, including members of the Road Safety Task Force highway unit, Dandenong regional traffic unit and Pakenhambased Cardinia Traffic Management Unit, conducted the exercise at the weighbridge station on both sides of the Princes Highway.
A total of 28 traffic offences were recorded and 55 defect notices issued, while 411 trucks were checked.
TMU sergeant Peter Garton said most truck drivers were doing the right thing.
Operation Austrans is conducted in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia during May.
