BAYLES Primary School has had a year to remember.
When school finished for the year this week, students and teachers could have given themselves a wellearned pat on the back.
The school was recently named a winner in the Victorian Schools Garden Awards, and also picked up the 2005 Waste Wise and Sustainable Schools award.
Over the past several months, students and teachers helped transform the school from an education centre to an Eden.
The gardens at Bayles Primary School have attracted statewide recognition. The school’s grounds feature new garden beds, a rotunda, shade shelters and even a ‘frog bog’, which has become a haven for wildlife.
Principal Sue Goodall said the award was a big thrill for the school community.
“It’s pretty huge news for our little school,” she said.
“The kids have really taken this project to heart. They’ve been involved with the planning, design and have helped with the planting, watering and all the other work.”
