WHEN Pakenham sevenmonthold Summer Rose Harsant was named overall champion at a baby show last week, it was a double win for her parents.
Tiffany Wouters and Daniel Harsant also heard their daughter speak her first word that morning.
“It’s an exciting day for us,” Ms Wouters said.
“She’s been saying ‘dad, dad, dad’ all morning.”
There were prams galore at Pakenham Place Shopping Centre on Friday.
Bubs, mums and even some dads were out in force in what was a huge turnout at the shopping centre’s first baby quest of the year.
Ms Wouters said she had been hoping to take home one ribbon to show Summer’s dad but she had certainly not been expecting to walk away with the grand prize.
Ms Wouters said she thought Summer, who was competing in her second baby show, had a future career in modelling.
“Well, at least I think she does,” she said.
Ms Wouters said Summer was already becoming a star, first appearing in the Gazette when she was born.
Pakenham eightmonthold Isabelle Hare took out the Brightest Eyes award.
Her father Adam Stephenson said his sister had talked him into bringing Isabelle down.
“It’s her first show. She could have a future career, I think,” he said.
“She loves cameras. She’s certainly not shy.”
Ms Stephenson and Isabelle’s mum Tammy Brisbane bought their daughter a dress especially that day.
The Champion Child award went to twoyearold Mitchell Szybkowski from Officer, who was competing in his first baby show.
It was a family affair for the Szybkowskis with Mitchell’s youngest sister Jemma, aged 10 weeks, taking out the Cutie Pie award.
Mum Natalie Szybkowski said she was walkign past with her three children, including fouryearold Brodie, and her mother Chris Cox when they saw the baby quest.
“I just said ‘I’ll take him in there’,” Ms Cox said.
“Mitchell doesn’t know what’s going on.”
Ms Szybkowski said she had been surprised at the win, especially as Mitchell had only just shaved off his “lovely curls”.
All proceeds from the baby show will go to the Epilepsy Foundation.
