IT was backtoback wins for Matthew Taylor at Beaconhills Country Golf Club on Saturday, winning the final of the Brian Balcombe matchplay event.
Matthew won the event by defeating fellow pennant player Matthew Buff 3/2 over the 36hole final.
The club named the event after Brian, a life member of the club and district in 1985 in acknowledgment of his love of the game and competitive spirit.
In the Bgrade final, Andrew Sheehan defeated Peter Sierat 6/4 and in C grade, Ian Simpson defeated Steve Kidd 6/5.
The champions and runnersup will be presented with their trophies at the annual champions dinner to be held at the club on April 22.
While the Balcombe was being fought out, the remainder of the field played Stableford on the Old course.
The winner of A grade was Lou Skantzos with 44 points.
In B grade, Jim Harper won with 42 points while in C grade, Glen James was the winner with 39 points on a countback.

THURSDAY RESULTS

Thursday April 6 was a Stableford competition on the Old course.
The weather reduced the field to 48 players that saw Ashley Graham win the day with 39 points on a countback from the runnerup Paul Rubens.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

This was the first round of the ladies championships and it was also a monthly medal event.
Junior member, Vanessa Tranfield had a sensational round of 74 – three over the card, giving the ten handicapper a nett 64 and also the monthly medal.
The impressive score has given Vanessa an 11shot lead in the championship and has reduced her handicap to eight.
Nearestthepin winners were Marilyn Ford on the sixth and Anne Madigan on the 15th, while the propin winners were Anne Madigan for A grade and Lisa Grimaldi for B grade.

TUESDAY RESULTS

Stableford was played on the Old course.
Les Richards was the winner with 44 points and the runnerup was Keith Barnes with 43 points.

CHARITY DAY SUCCESS

A record amount of $3000 was raised for the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research on the Beaconhills ladies charity day on Wednesday, 22 March.
More than 100 players took part in the many fundraising activities.
Lorraine Baxter from Beaconhills and Anne Cunningham from BerwickMontuna were the fourballbestball competition winners for the ladies.
Jack Weir from Beaconhills and Eric Moore from Long Island combined well to win the fourballbestball for the men with 53 points.
