ONE of the new displays in the Casey art space, Waiting for Rain is something with which most people will associate.
Carrum artist Tania Richards portrays the hidden strengths and endurance of a landscape and its people dealing with drought.
A selftaught artist, Ms Richards paints outback landscapes from panoramic photographs taken while travelling extensively throughout Australia, and is renowned for her use of bold colour and abstraction.
She said camping and hiking through national parks and enjoying the scenic beauty and vibrant colours of nature inspired her to paint.
Ms Richards said that in one of her paintings, Old Mum Red Gum, strength and resilience were depicted by the roots of the river red gum, surviving, gripping on to life despite the eroded banks and low water levels of the Murray River.
Ms Richards manages her owngallery and studio, and exhibits her work at public and private galleries, festivals and art shows.
Her work has been exhibited at the Noosa Regional Art Gallery and the Frankston Arts Centre.
Casey art space is in the Casey Civic Centre, Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
