Brigade fires up volunteer plea

NEW firefighters are needed at Kooweerup.
Like many neighbouring brigades, work situations are meaning that members are less likely to be available for emergency response during business hours.
Kooweerup captain Michael Duff said the brigade was coping but could really do with more volunteers to help out during daytime.
“Kooweerup has a fairly large workforce around during the day. If a business suffers an emergency such as a fire or industrial accident they will want to be able to rely on the local fire brigade’s ability to respond quickly,” Mr Duff said.
“We need local businesses to contribute to their own protection by allowing their employees to be volunteer firefighters and to respond during the day.”
Kooweerup fire brigade attends about 60 emergencies a year.
An open day will be held at the station in Moody Street on Sunday 9, October from 10am to 2pm.
For anybody who would like to know more about becoming a volunteer firefighter, the brigade will also hold an information session at the station at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 11 October.
Bayles, Lang Lang, Heath HillYannathan and Upper Beaconsfield fire brigades are also looking for new recruits.
If you would like to know more, contact brigade support officer Chris Barber on 0419 549 940.
