TRADERS concerned that roadworks planned for Bunyip’s town centre would rob them of vital car parking space have had their fears allayed.
Pat Wakefield, of the Bunyip Village Cafe and Old Wares, said Cardinia Shire Council had presented alternative designs for the works that met with shopkeepers’ approval. Angle parking spaces have been incorporated into the plan.
Mr Wakefield, whose 100yearold general store is a focus in the town, had been concerned the works would leave his customers with nowhere to park. He now says he is satisfied that his business will not be affected.
He said he had been advised of the new designs by councillor Bill Pearson and no longer had any objection.
“It’s been sorted out and everybody’s happy.
“I’m happy. It’s a good result and the council has shown that they are listening,” Mr Wakefield said.
Works to revitalise Bunyip’s town centre began last year and have included the redevelopment of Anzac Park.
The next phase of the $240,000 project, a revamp of High Street to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians, is due to start in the next couple of weeks.
