CARDINIA’S Agrade side is set for a 175 premiership run chase against Kooweerup next Saturday after rain washed out day one of the grand final at Pakenham on the weekend.
The Bulls lost the toss on Sunday and Mark Cooper’s charges were asked to bowl.
Chris Remy (3/38) struck first, Adam Hobson (1/23) then took a wicket and Remy had Cochrane caught by a phenomenal catch from Troy DaRose at second slip.
The Bulls were in control after Remy took another, the score was 4/60 and Cardinia was in a commanding position.
Strong batting from Carl McGregor and Chris McConnell saw the Demons through to tea and they were 4/95.
McGregor was run out shortly after the resumption of play and that vital breakthrough came from a spectacular piece of John Nooy fielding.
Dwayne Doig (2/53) and Mark Cooper (2/54) bowled 53 overs between them and kept the run rate low.
The Bulls however couldn’t finish the job and could only manage nine wickets as they held Kooweerup to 9/175.

In veteran Wayne Snooks’ final match, the Bulls disappointingly went down to Gembrook in the grand final at Pakenham UpperToomuc.
There were 64 overs bowled on day one and it was Jeff Bailey that dominated with the ball, taking 4/29 in a superb spell.
The Brookers’ were 6/206 overnight and faced out their remaining six overs on day two.
On day two, Gembrook managed another 43 runs – 19 off the final over.
In their pursuit of Gembrook’s 249, Craig Bell smashed a phenomenal 100, but his solo effort wasn’t enough to get the Bulls over the line.
Matt Ryan again batted well, but unfortunately the season ended on a sad note for the Bulls as their quest for a premiership was felled by a strong Gembrook side by just 14 runs after a comeback was looking likely.

Playing Tooradin there was no play on Saturday due to rain, so the grand final got underway on Sunday.
Bulls’ captain, Bradey Welsh won the toss and elected to field. A strong team performance saw the Bulls restrict the Seagulls to 115. Although they didn’t bowl the side out, their exceptional fielding and tight bowling helped restrict the opposition.
It will be an entertaining chase this week as Cardinia aims for its first junior premiership since the turn of the century.
