Berwick play maker Adam Mott has starred for the Wickers this season and will be a key to his side’s
THERE will be added interest in this Saturday’s traditional Battle of the Creek between Beaconsfield and Berwick with a 100metre running race between rival players scheduled.
While there is already plenty of incentive for both clubs to win the football game, Darren and AnneMarie Cockburn of Wizard Home Loans in Dandenong have put up a $250 prize and perpetual trophy (framed jumper) for the halftime Wizard dashforcash.
Each club will enter three players in the race and the winner will take the prize cheque with his club holding the trophy.
It is planned that the event becomes a permanent part of the day every time the two clubs meet.
The game itself is played for the Battle of the Creek cup sponsored by a mutual benefactor of both clubs, Tip Top Roofing.
The pride and bragging rights that go with that, together with extra keenness resulting from the afterthesiren win by the Wickers in their firstround encounter should ensure a great contest in front of a big crowd.
The young Eagles have come a long way in 2006, despite missing the finals and will be determined to regain their previous dominance over Berwick.
The Wickers in turn will be aiming to reaffirm that the earlier win was no fluke.
On paper Berwick looks to have the talent to win, but at the Perc Allison Reserve, Beaconsfield is a hard nut to crack and should get over the line in a close one.
