HE may only be 12, but Chris Broom showed he has a big golfing future when he swept the field to win the Beaconhills Country Golf Club’s under15 junior championship.
The ninehole event was played over four weeks, with the best three nett scores deciding the winner and Chris’ final score was 105 nett, or three under.
Mark Griffin, Beaconhills’ professional, said Chris had been playing very consistently and would do well as he now moves up to playing 18 holes in the senior field.
Another junior Hayden Nisbet is also playing well, shooting the best three gross scores of 132.
Mark said Beaconhills had a strong commitment to encouraging junior golfers.
The club’s under15 members compete in a Saturday afternoon ninehole competition supervised by junior coordinator Greg Broom and Mark Griffin.
They also have casual playing rights on weekdays any time other than member competition times and Saturday and Sundays after 2.30pm.
Junior Laura Griffin left for Tasmania on Tuesday with the Victorian Junior State Team.
The girls will compete in the threeday Australian Junior Amateur event before the states take each other on in matchplay.
