MORE than 160 people gathered for morning worship to celebrate Cardinia Presbyterian Church’s 90th birthday on Sunday, 13 November.
Reverend Wally Zurrer led the service, with Reverend Andrew Bray as guest speaker.
Graeme Dodson, who has been the organist since 1954, was accompanied by his son Malcolm Dodson and grand daughter Jessica Peters on violin, who also sang the 23rd Palm.
Among the congregation were many worshippers who were as old, if not older, than the church itself.
Mr Dodson said the day was a milestone in the church’s long history.
“I wonder if when the pioneers erected the almost maintenance free building, they realised that 90 years later it would be standing on the hill with its door open saying ‘come in and worship your God’,” he said.
“The door is open in no small measure to the contribution made by the ladies of the parish.”
During the day a memorial window was dedicated to the pioneers of the Cardinia Shire district.
After the service, worshippers enjoyed a luncheon at the church hall, where a celebratory cake was cut and shared.
Worship services are held weekly at Cardinia Presbyterian Church at 9.15am.
