Close games for Warriors

THE Warriors men’s team was set to go last week but opponent Latrobe did not appear, handing the Warriors a walkover.
The women’s team was able to match the strong Waverley lineup for most of the game.
The under14 sides both won, the girls narrowly in a physical contest while the boys got the points after a close first half. The Under 16 Boys Blue team won again despite giving Cranbourne a start.

WOMEN

Although going down to the Waverley Falcons, the Warriors played gritty basketball to stay in touch with the best women’s side in MMBL competition, undefeated this season.
The Warriors worked hard in defence and limited the Falcons to their lowest score of the season, but they struggled to penetrate themselves and their shooting percentage was well down on the night. Tall under16 player Genevieve Abbott improves with each game and equal topscored with six points along with Liesl Holmes. Hayley DaSilva played one of her best games.
Scores: Waverley Falcons 39 d Warriors 26.

UNDER 20 MEN

The Warriors played at home against the Tigers’ fourth team. The Warriors got a good start and led until the 15minute mark of the first half, when the Tigers pulled ahead. Tigers held on to win 7062.
Jamie Stow played a great game and was the highest scorer on 25 points. Tim Hendrikx was brilliant under the basket.
Scores: Melbourne Tigers 70 d Warriors 62.

UNDER 16 GIRLS GOLD

Playing Sandringham, the Warriors were struggling to keep up in the first half despite the efforts of JamieLee Dario and Jacinta Rich being down 2213 at half time. In the second half the Warriors had the better of the play through Shiona Dickson and Amelia Aidone and when Ella Coleman found the net Pakenham was in front 2927. Then the Sabres rallied to tie the scores in the final minute and won by a basket.
Scores: Sandringham Sabres 33 d Warriors 31.

UNDER 16 GIRLS BLUE

The Warriors played Camberwell away on Friday night. At halftime the Warriors trailed 1020. Katie Cornish controlled the ball well whilst making the most of her opportunities to drive to the basket and Lauren Brown dominated the rebounding giving the Warriors every chance to gain possession of the ball. Apart from the slow start, overall it was a good game by the Warriors.
Scores: Camberwell 32 d Warriors 27.

UNDER 16 BOYS GOLD

At Frankston the game began with Frankston scoring easy early baskets and the Warriors went in at halftime down by seven points.
In the second half Pakenham was unable to make up the deficit. Frankston continued scoring with relative ease while Pakenham struggled to find its team game. Nathan Page made a strong individual effort, scoring 12 secondhalf points. Zach Money and James Bridgett managed five points each and Pakenham scored 24 points for the half. This was not enough to catch Frankston.
Scores: Frankston 57 d Warriors 45.

UNDER 16 BOYS BLUE

The Warriors played the Ice at Cranbourne and the Ice skipped to 12point lead at the 10minute mark. Jason Budge was kept busy at both ends but still managed eight firsthalf points to cut the Ice’s lead to 2322 at the change of ends.
Dale O’Callaghan (15 points) stole the show in the dying minutes with successful steals and converted foul shots, scoring 10 secondhalf points. Josh Dawson then made a great steal and conversion to give the Warriors a courageous win. Budge finished with 12 points.
Scores: Warriors 54 d Cranbourne Ice 48.
UNDER 14 GIRLS

In a physical and scrappy game against Ringwood the Warriors got a good start, Stephanie Dicker’s height advantage helping her post the first six points. At halftime Ringwood was trailing the Warriors 812.
Ringwood was able to level the scores late in the game but was in foul trouble, which sent the Warriors to the foul line several times.
Josie Lee Uniacke time after time was able to intercept Ringwood’s fast breaks and push the Warriors up the floor. Dicker scored 11 points. Scores: Warriors 23 d Ringwood 22.

UNDER 14 BOYS

Pakenham travelled to Mornington and the match was tight until halftime, each team scoring 16 points.
The second half the Warriors dug deep to edge ahead, Sean Armstrong scoring 14 points in the half. Armstrong fouled out when the Warriors were six points up with less than three minutes to go. But the Warriors came out on top and Armstrong finished with 20 points. Scores: Warriors 42 d Mornington 36.
