THE Berwick HPV and Cycling Club has changed its name to Casey Cardinia HPV and Cycling Club.
The new name was adopted at the club’s annual meeting last Wednesday.
President John Perrin said the new name was needed to better reflect the club’s enormous growth.
Committee member David Jagger supported the argument for a name change saying that the club began at Berwick, but had grown to involve a much wider area.
“The club is growing and now has established a committee system for its management,” he said.
One of the club’s founders Terry Trevena said no other club existed that encompassed all sections of cycling as the CCHPVCC did.
Mr Perrin said the club would be represented on the Casey fields management committee where a new state of the art criterium track was being built.
He said the club was almost totally satisfied with agreements between the various cycling groups for use of the new track.
“We are working to meld them all together,” he said.
Mr Perrin said the club planned to run three significant events at the Cranbourne track during next year and was working toward running a major 24hour event.
“We aim to break the 1000 kilometre barrier for a 24 hour event, and we also plan to be involved, if possible, in the Edwin Flack Games,” he said.
Committee members elected at the annual meeting were Barry Freeman, Julie Hunt, Terry Trevena, Daryl Noy, Clare de Kok, John Perrin, and David Jagger.
