CATANI football and netball clubs are looking forward to a big 2007 with the reappointment of senior coach Paul Alger and the exciting appointment of A and Bgrade netball coach Sophie Cook.
The senior football club kicked off its preseason with a great role up of 35 players and plenty of supporters on hand for the first night back to the club since its early exit from the final series last season.
Paul Alger and reserves coach Brad McDonald were pleased with the turnup including the return of Brent Mounsey and new recruit Danny Murphy.
“It’s a long way from April, but the hard work starts now,” Alger said.
With the Ellinbank and District Football League deciding to increase the age to under 18 for the football, Gordon Kitchin has decided to remain on as coach and will begin training in the new year, hoping to go a few steps better than last.
The netball club is happy with its appointment of former Drouin netballer Sophie Cook as the new coach.
Cook was chased by several other clubs in the area, but chose Catani and the club was delighted with her decision.
Kirsty Monckton will coach C and Egrade, along with Angela Banbury, Leah Jones and Allison Adams looking after D and Fgrades.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I can’t wait until training starts,” Cook said.
The netball club has applied for an extension to its clubrooms and with the upgrade to the courts last season the Catani Netball Club is looking towards a big year.
The senior netballers plan to start training on the first of February next year.
“That will give us 11 weeks until round one,” the excited new coach Cook said.
