Cooper leads Bulls’ stampede

A SUPERB 157 by Cardinia Agrade’s Mark Cooper led his side to a strong win against Pakenham on Saturday.
In a match that was played in hot, tiring conditions, the Bulls set about chasing Pakenham’s total of 261 and did it easily with 424.
Steve Paterson opened the innings with Cooper and the former was first out for six, the score 1/9.
Daniel Strahan then joined Cooper and the two batted superbly for a 184run partnership.
Strahan was out for an excellent 59 in his first Agrade match for the season.
Justin Berry arrived at the crease and sent the runrate soaring into the smoky air as he blasted a powerful 62 to guide Cardinia past the total in the 55th over.
Cooper was out a short time after the match was won for yet another centuryplus score. He caressed the Lions’ bowlers to all corners of E. Gunton Reserve and his 157 was his top score for the season by five runs.
Ben DaRose took advantage of the fact that the match had already been won when he made his way to the centre, scoring a scintillating 79 off less than half that amount of deliveries.
John Nooy scored a quick 29 not out at the close and Luke Turner made 21.
The Cardinia innings was closed at 7/424 after a relentless day of heat and leather chasing for the Lions.

Cardinia was defending its 224 against Pakenham and did so with ease.
The Lions were bowled out for just 54, thanks to a great team performance.
Brad Goodman was the best of the bowlers taking 3/9. Brodie Glen (2/5) and Rob Allen (2/17) both got doubles and Ryan Kitchin, Matt Adlam and stalwart John Grogan both got one each.
Captain Matt Adlam decided to enforce the followon and Cardinia managed to take 3/68 before stumps.
John Grogan took 2/18 and Kitchin 1/17.

Also playing Pakenham, Cardinia was defending 146 and the Lions resumed at 3/79.
The match hung in the balance for quite some time, however it was Pakenham that prevailed due to an excellent individual effort from Tim Holt who held the Cardinia bowlers at bay to score a defiant 78.
Matthew Argoon was the best of the bowlers, snaring 5/38 from 18 tight and probing overs of offspin.
Mitch Abbott, Nathaniel Wade and Ryan Webster all took a wicket each as well as ’keeper Daniel Cairns taking three brilliant catches.
Pakenham finished on 224 and the stumps were pulled due to the heat.

Cardinia set about chasing Gembrook’s 162 at Rythdale.
Gary Quinlan (18) batted well at the top of the order as did Gary Glen (24).
Matt Ryan was the dominant batsman with 70, with the Bulls passing the total in just 46 overs.
Chris Lemmon and captain Wayne Snooks made 26 and 22 respectively in Cardinia’s 30run victory.

With only 84 on the board the Bulls were in trouble as Kooweerup was already 1/46 in its chase.
Unfortunately for the Bulls the Demons’ batsmen found the gaps in the field with ease as Cardinia only had 7 players.
Kooweerup batted out the day to score 9/339 with Ron Bright 125 not out for the Demons.
Ricky Campbell was the best of the bowlers taking 3/80 and Tom Bennett took 2/37.
Under13 player Sam Vanderzalm took two wickets.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 15

Cardinia had already secured firstinnings points against Kooweerup and continued its innings before declaring on 125 a lead of 94.
Brett Venn made 31 not out and Jason Fisher remained unbeaten on 19.
Cardinia then tore through the Demons’ bats for 85.
Travis Welsh (2/8) and Pat Nolan (2/18) and singles were taken by Travis Kitchin, Devlyn TraceyShaw and Chris Wirth.

Cardinia took on KilcundaBass and defended its total of 136 with ease, bowling Bass out for 84.
Nick Nolan took 2/6 and Daniel Bonney took 2/15. Tom Weinzierl, Jason Bonney Nick Cairns and Elijah Wade all took one wicket each.
