The Berwick Show is on this Saturday and Sunday and will be officially opened by Premier Steve Bracks.
The twoday show is one of the top community events in the district.
Pakenham’s show is another premier event and will be held on Saturday, 18 March.
Mr Bracks will officially open the Berwick Show just before the grand parade on Saturday.
The show features the biggest cattle show in Victoria, second only to the Royal Melbourne Show.
Berwick also has one of the biggest horse shows in the state.
The show highlights the unique diversity of the area by promoting the rural aspects and educating and enhancing many lives.
Livestock on display include alpacas, goats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, cavies, rats and mice.
Berwick Show president Andrew Dedlefs said he hoped to see all of the families of the City of Casey and surrounding areas enjoying all activities over the two days of Berwick Show.
“The art and craft, photography, horticulture and schools will have excellent displays as well as the many free activities around the ground,” Mr Dedlefs said.
“The Saturday night events on the arena will include sixbar horse jumping, novelty horse events and finish with the City of Casey fireworks.”
The Berwick Show will be held at Akoonah Park on the corner of the Princes Highway and Cardinia Street.
The Pakenham Show, in four weeks’ time, will be held at the Pakenham Racecourse.
The popular event is in its 95th year.
President George Wall said it was the one day of the year when the country came to town.
Livestock exhibits, foot racing, iron man and iron woman events, the dog high jump and gumboot throwing competition were just some of the crowd pleasing events in store, he said.
“A large exhibit of the working man truck and ute muster is a must see for everyone,” Mr Wall said.
“The show society is run by volunteers – dedicated people who try to make show day a real family day out, so pencil in your calendar ‘Saturday, 18 March’.”
