A STRONG weekday crowd attended the last harness race meeting for 2006 in perfect conditions at Warragul last Friday.
Drivers Shane McGuinness and Jodi Quinlan both landed doubles on the eightrace card.
While multiple successes at Warragul for Jodi Quinlan are pretty much old hat, Shane McGuinness landed his first Warragul double with The Queen Bee and False Pretence.
Both horses led throughout.
While Shane had a tough drive behind The Queen Bee, who constantly fought her driver to go faster, False Pretence was left alone in front.
From somewhat limited opportunities, the Gippslandbased McGuinness has developed a reputation as a talented young horseman.
Hopefully further success should come his way – and it should given his dedication and the support he has from numerous local stables.
Jodi Quinlan’s double came courtesy of her own horse Son Of Jam in the Radford’s Butchery Pace, and La Venganza, for Gary and Debbie Quinlan in the Elizabethan Receptions Pace.
Meltonbased Alison Chisholm used all of her skill to guide Benzorama to a narrow victory in the Gary Lee Sprinklers Pace.
Benzorama defeated favourite Jasper Jo, driven by Vivien Tomren, to give the girls the quinella.
Another feature race was the Alby Quinlan Memorial Handicap, won by Britemar. It was the second win of the week for Britemar, which was victorious at Echuca the previous Tuesday night.
Britemar has now won three races on end for trainer Bruce Comben, and came from a 40metre handicap last Friday.
Harness racing returns to Warragul on Friday, 12 January.
