A LANG LANG man died in a horror twocar collision near Pakenham on Friday.
The 34yearold’s death continued a tragic sevenday stretch on local roads.
A Tynong man also died last week when he was hit by a car in Railway Avenue, Tynong.
Police said the latest fatality happened when a Nissan sedan heading towards Kooweerup and a utility collided shortly after 4.30 pm on the KooweerupHealesville Road.
The Nissan broke in two on impact.
The driver of the Nissan was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene.
The driver of the ute, a 46yearold Coronet Bay man, received minor injuries and was taken to Casey Hospital.
No other people were involved in the collision.
The police Major Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
The fatal crash marked the start of another busy stretch for the Pakenham Road Rescue Unit and police and emergency services.
“Rescuers were on scene until 8 pm that evening providing lighting and helping with scene cleanup,” Pakenham SES spokesman Stephen Monro said.
“It’s been a very busy long weekend for the Pakenham Road Rescue Unit,” he said.
On Saturday morning, rescuers were called to Main Drain Road North, in Kooweerup North at 6:55am, for a single vehicle accident where a car hit a tree.
Mr Monro said a man in his late 20s was cut free from the wreckage, which trapped him by the legs. He was airlifted to hospital.On Monday at 10am, the PRRU was called to a threecar collision in Narre Warren at the corner of the Princes Highway and the Hallam Bypass.
A short time later, rescuers were called to yet another accident at the corner of Princes Highway and Bessie Creek Road, Nar Nar Goon.
Mr Monro said a woman received minor injuries after her car hit a power pole.
