THE ‘boys from Berwick’ joined forces last month during their fourday car sale to give $50 from every car sold to Windermere Child and Family Services.
This resulted in $5500 being donated to help kids in crisis.
The joint marketing effort between David Nutter Ford, Harris Freer Toyota, Barry Bourke Holden and Berwick Nissan/Kia/Jeep/Chrysler saw the group send out more than 70,000 addressed letters to promote the sale and highlight their commitment to Windermere.
David Nutter Ford proprietor David Nutter said the dealerships all believed in the principle of putting back into their community.
“This shows what you can achieve with corporate social responsibility,” he said.
“The dealers acknowledged their interdependence and with this sale they wanted to present a united front in both offering a great deal to people looking for a new car and in supporting what they all saw was a worthy local cause.
“They all agreed that people from the area wanted to ‘give where they lived’.”
Windermere research has highlighted that a large percentage of people from the region would be interested in sponsoring a local kid in crisis along the same lines as a World Vision child sponsorship, through monthly giving.
Windermere has piloted the sponsorship model with contributions helping a disadvantaged local child by providing funds towards school excursions, therapeutic camps, sports uniforms, computer equipment, and ongoing counselling.
Mr Nutter said the dealers were happy that the sale was a winwin situation and all felt Windermere was a great cause.
“They do amazing things with the most disadvantaged and vulnerable kids right here in our community,” he said.
