Sue de Hamer is disgusted with Casey Council for taking six days to remove an abandoned car outside her Berwick house.

A DAMAGED car left deserted in a Berwick street has left a local resident fuming at council officials.
The abandoned vehicle was outside Sue de Hamer’s Brisbane Street property for six days after an accident a fortnight ago.
Ms de Hamer said the car was an eyesore to her house, which she is currently trying to sell, and also a major safety issue.
“I called council first thing on Monday morning and I had to call a second time after nothing was done,” Ms de Hamer said.
Ms de Hamer said the response from council was disgusting and it was a disgrace that it took so long for the car to be removed.
The unregistered vehicle was finally towed away after Ms de Hamer personally took the matter up with an employee from Casey Council.
“It was removed some time on Friday after I forced the issue with the a bylaws officer, but my initial calls just fell on deaf ears.”
Ms de Hamer said her main concern was the potential for another accident while people slowed down to look at the abandoned car.
“It was a real safety issue because we get such a high volume of traffic coming through on this road,” she said.
Adding further grief to the situation for Ms de Hamer is the fact her house is currently on the market.
“It really would have turned off any potential buyers that may have been looking at buying the property,” she said.
“You shouldn’t have to put up with something like this and the situation ended up becoming quite distressing.”
Casey customer services manager Rob Colling said the removal of the car was delayed because the police and council had handled the matter at the same time.
“We feel for the resident in this type of situation and normally the vehicle would be removed within 24hours,” Mr Colling said.
