BEACONSFIELD’S seniors had the chance of a win after the siren against Cranbourne on Saturday, but had to settle for a draw.
Although the weather was fine, the oval at the Perc Allison Reserve had succumbed to a long season and persistent midweek rain.
In a bright start the teams (both called the Eagles) showed they had come to play with a tight hard first quarter that saw Beaconsfield ahead by four points at the siren.
After the break it was Cranbourne that came out hard causing costly Beaconsfield turnovers and creating opportunities to score.
The Beaconsfield defence withstood much of the pressure, but at halftime the visitors had grabbed the lead by 10 points, keeping the locals goalless for the quarter in the process.
With David White taking some great marks and Rob Taylor racking up numerous possessions, the third quarter saw both sides slot through three majors as Cranbourne increased its lead by a point at the final change.
An early goal to Cranbourne in the final term looked like it would snuff out the home side’s chances, but players rallied to score three goals and get within a point late in the quarter.
One last push forward and Luke McConnell marked inside the forward 50. As he went back for his kick the siren sounded. His shot faded left and the game ended in a draw.

Unlikely to make the finals, Beaconsfield was playing for pride against fifthplaced Cranbourne.
Players formed a guard of honour as Jason Reynolds ran out for the 250th time in the Beaconsfield colours to the cheers of the crowd.
Ground conditions were difficult, as both sides struggled to score in the first term.
In the second quarter, Beaconsfield found its feet and played some attractive football to have a handy 20point lead at the long break.
A solid third quarter put the home side in the box seat with a sevengoal lead at the last change.
With the sting out of the game only one goal was scored in the last term with Beaconsfield running out easy victors by 49 points.

Getting off to a great start, the Beaconsfield was 21 points ahead at quarter time.
Early in the second term, Cranbourne fought its way back into the contest, closing the gap to just three points after only 10 minutes. The locals steadied to regain their threegoal lead by the long break.
Seemingly Cranbourne had run out of steam as Beaconsfield kicked eight goals to one in the second half to finish the game convincing winners by 63 points.
