NYORA, stung by last week’s result against Cora Lynn, its first loss for the season, is likely to take it out on visitor Nar Nar Goon. Last week was a wakeup call for the Saints and, while the defeat ended their undefeated record, it was probably a blessing in disguise for it exposed a few frailties in the lineup that have seldom been exposed all season. The Saints can now work on eradicating these and finetuning for the finals. After its roundseven victory over the Dusties, Nar Nar Goon held hopes of sneaking a spot in the top six. But since things have gone awry and the Goon has dropped eight consecutive games. On the positive side, Pat Henwood’s team has had a dip and been competitive for large segments of most games. Nyora, on the rebound, should win handsomely.
Catani will visit Lang Lang. The Tigers produced a good month of competitive football before last week’s capitulation against Kooweerup. Lang Lang played like a jaded team last week, not unusual for a team that has nothing to play for, and Catani, the reigning dual premier, should win comfortably.
NeerimNeerim South will play host to Kooweerup. This looks to be a good contest after both had moraleboosting victories last week. It’s been a rollercoaster season for the Demons, who found the right formula last week to crush Lang Lang, and that victory might just turn out to be a win that turns its season around. Key Demon forward Dan Crowley is likely to return this week after arthroscopy on his knee and, with a spot in the top six to protect, Peter Bastinac’s charges will have the motivation to get across the line.
Longwarry will welcome Poowong. Longwarry got a fright last week against Ellinbank and that probably spells danger for the Magpies, as the Crows are unlikely to enter the game with any complacency. Poowong has the forwards to kick a winning score if it can get the better of the midfield duels. Here sits the Magpies’ potential problem, for only the ladder leader Nyora has been able to overshadow the strong Crow midfield.
The lustre has disappeared from Ellinbank’s home game against Bunyip after the Eagles had their wings clipped last week by Longwarry. The Eagles are likely to enter the game deflated by last week’s gallant loss to Longwarry, which put an end to its finals prospects and presents a real test of character for Mick Hamilton’s boys. The Bulldogs are confident its marking machine and key defender Daniel Hagen will return and his presence should steer Bunyip towards victory.
A visit to NilmaDarnum’s home ground should not pose any difficulties for Cora Lynn. The Bombers look helpless to prevent the Cobras from winning by a hefty margin.
On Sunday, Warragul Industrials will entertain Buln Buln. Both teams produced a similar performance last week fading away after quartertime and this led to their defeat. While the Dusties had nothing to lose but pride, Buln Buln’s loss came as a big surprise. The Lyrebirds should win and keep their miniscule final hopes alive.
