BUCHANAN Park’s Elspbeth Lass has won the Supreme Welsh Black exhibit at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Described as an outstanding Welsh Black female, Elspbeth Lass won her first grand championship at 12 months old, along with her first supreme exhibit.
Now three years old with her first calf at foot, she has won her third consecutive grand champion sash and her second supreme exhibit.
Sister to Elspbeth Lass, Buchanan Park Gwyneth, was awarded junior champion Welsh Black heifer at only 11 months old.
The Buchanan Park stud, Berwick, took five animals and two calves to the Royal Melbourne Show and all came home winners with six broad ribbons.
Buchanan Park Dana, a fouryearold cow with an eightweekold calf at foot, was awarded senior reserve champion Welsh Black female.
Buchanan Park Felicity won her class heifer 20 to 24 months, and Buchanan Park Gordon, an 11monthold bull, won junior reserve champion Welsh Black Bull.
The team also performed well in the group class with first in best three head, and first in the sire’s progeny.
The stud also won most successful Welsh Black exhibitor.
Buchanan Park proprietors Allan and Jill Furborough said they were happy to have their daughter Karen Chipperfield helping out for the first time at the show.
They said that although Karen was new to the show ring she was part of winning the supreme exhibit combination, leading Buchanan Park Hyacinth, Elspbeth Lass’s sixmonthold calf.
Buchanan Park was founded at Tynong five years ago.
The Furboroughs said they had been showing their Welsh Black cattle for only three years and had met with considerable success.
