MORE than 2700 primary school children were given hints on how to preserve the environment during the 2006 Casey Environmental Expo at Wilson Botanic Park early this month.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford launched the expo with the view to making students more environmentally conscious.
Cr Bradford said the event had an emphasis on handson activities related to the natural and cultural environments.
“The Casey Environmental Expo is a simple and effective concept targeted perfectly to primaryaged students,” he said.
“It is fantastic to see youngsters engrossed in sustainability issues and learning lessons which they will introduce into their own homes and families.
“I encourage parents and teachers to continue to reinforce the messages instilled through the Casey Environmental Expo at home and at school.”
The expo explained solar energy, Aboriginal culture, biodiversity, water conservation, Waterwatch, horticulture and road safety.
By learning through play, students discovered alternative ecofriendly techniques for everyday activities such as throwing out rubbish, using electricity in the home and gardening.
