TOPclass sporting facilities in the south east have been further recognised, this time by highlevel softball administrators.
International softball teams, world champion New Zealand and the Republic of South Africa’s softball team will play the Victorian men’s softball team at Sweeney Reserve, Narre Warren, on Monday, 23 January.
Day and evening games have been set to provide an opportunity for people to see at least part of the action.
Just to make things a little more interesting, the Victorian team holds the Australian championship so I doubt the visitors will find their games all that easy to win.
The Victorian guys will certainly be striving to get at least one international scalp to their credit so the action is expected to be lively.
The City of Casey has another winner on its sporting agenda by hosting this event.
It follows the highly successful Twenty20 cricket match held at Berwick as a introduction to the Casey South Melbourne Cricket Club.
Other big winners for Casey are the Scorpions Football Club’s move to Casey Fields, Cranbourne, and news that a major criterium track is being built at Casey Fields for highlevel cycling and human powered vehicle (HPV) events.
Facilities for these events represent an enormous financial investment for the City of Casey, supplemented by government grants, but is an investment which I believe will pay handsomely.
Casey is expected to hold at least one major HPV marathon a year at Casey Fields that will draw thousands of people with massive spending power to the area.
Sport at any level creates a healthy lifestyle and social interaction.
So much the better if our sportspeople also have toplevel competition on their doorstep.
