EMERALD Library is getting a brand new bunch of friends.
Keen readers and community leaders are forming a Friends of the Library Group for the soontobecompleted facility.
Premier Steve Bracks is expected to officially open the library on 11 July.
The $2.25 million Cardinia Shire Council project is said to be on time and on budget.
Emerald resident Lee Fuller is helping to organise the friends group.
Ms Fuller said the group would help create a strong link between library staff and the wider community.
“We would organise events, possibly a book club or discussion groups and authors’ visits,” she said.
“There will hopefully be representation from the local primary and secondary schools as well as preschools and other groups and organisations.
“We’re trying to get the word out now and hopefully get up and running when the library opens.”
Ms Fuller said the community was eagerly awaiting the opening of the library, a facility regarded as muchneeded in Emerald.
“It’s been a long time coming and now it’s not far away,” she said.
>>> A meeting to officially form the Friends group will be held at the Emerald Library on Wednesday, 26 July at 7.30 pm.
