BEACONSFIELD Football Club’s Jason ‘Rare’ Reynolds saddles up for game number 250 this week, but is trying to keep it low key.
“I haven’t thought about it as a milestone thing. Some people get hyped about it my wife and kids are excited,” Reynolds, 32, said.
After switching to Beaconsfield from Kooweerup Football Club as a 16yearold, Reynolds was dubbed ‘Rare’ to distinguish him from the Reynolds brothers, Mark and Shane, who were already playing at the club.
“I think that’s the reason. I was the odd one out, but everybody thought it was because I was one of a kind,” he said.
As with any nickname, Reynolds has accepted its eternal link to him.
“It grows on you,” he said.
Reynolds has had many highlights in his football career but his individual highlight came in 2001, when, along with two others, he won the reserves’ league best and fairest.
He has also been a part of three premiership teams at Beaconsfield, but his first stands out.
“I was a part of Beaconsfield’s senior flag in 1999, which was its first flag in about 18 years,” Reynolds said.
Unfortunately, he has also experienced being on the losing side on Grand Final day three times.
He does not plan on having any big celebrations for the milestone game, but he is wary of his wife, Carly.
“I’ve got no idea (whether anything is planned), but my wife is probably up to no good,” Reynolds said.
His nofuss nature extends to the football field.
“I just play wherever they want me to,” Reynolds said.
