GEMBROOKCockatoo Junior Football Club’s under16 team showed flashes of good play against a strong UpweyTecoma team, finally going down by 79 points.
The first half saw some great passages of teamwork resulting in goals.
S. Telpuk, T. Rattle and A. Sawyer worked hard through halfback, where the Pye brothers were also having solid performances.
With improved teamwork, the Brookers started to link up and help each other break the lines.
The second half showed improvement with everyone getting excitement from their own efforts, most notably D. Rozenboom, J. Bova and S. Heathcote.
It was a muchimproved outfit with promising signs of teamwork that will give the players’ confidence a boost for the first home game this week.

UNDER 14

Gembrook knew that Upwey at home would come out hard, but was eager to win and establish itself for the 2006 season.
The first quarter saw Gembrook with a twogoal advantage and in the second kept the opposition scoreless.

After a slow start, Gembrook took the game up to Wandin and played excellent teamwork after quarter time.

The game was slow due to the wet and muddy ground, but a good team effort from Gembrook.

In an exciting finish Gembrook defeated Wesburn by two points.
The third quarter was scrappy and Wesburn held a slender lead and added another goal in the last quarter.
In the last few seconds, Liam Purdon took a mark at centre halfforward and kicked the winning goal.

It was a good, close, hardfought contest against a top side and every player gave everything they had, to prevail by a small margin.
