GEMBROOK successfully defended a firstinnings total of 249 against Cardinia to take out the Egrade premiership at the weekend.
The game was in the balance at tea on the second day, but excellent bowling and fielding saw Cardinia dismissed for 205 in the 63rd over.

Play was held up for about 45 minutes due to rain.
When the game got under way, Gembrook won the toss and batted, losing an early wicket.
Darcy Johnstone and Anthony Escamp then steadied the ship until Escamp was out in the last over before tea for 14.
At tea, the score was 2/33 off 21 overs, then Darcy Johnstone and Andrew Shipp added 130 for the third wicket.
Shipp was out for an excellent 77 and Johnstone followed soon after, scoring a classy 71.
At the end of the day, the score was 6/207 off 64 overs.

Gembrook resumed batting and had six overs to face and pushed the total to 7/249 after 70 overs.
Marty Williams (31 not out), Scott Osseweyer (17) and Jeremy Everitt (15 not out) did well.
Cardinia then went in to bat to try to chase the total down and was 5/127 off 37 overs at tea with the game in the balance.
This was the case until the end with Cardinia eventually being dismissed for 205.
Secondday highlights were Jy Berriman (3/32), Marty Williams (3/62), Jeremy Everitt (2/48) and Andrew Shipp (2/48).
Daniel Fry also took two excellent catches.
Gembrook congratulated Cardinia’s Craig Bell who made 100 and was awarded grandfinal player of the match.
