The 11yearold fast bowler was selected to represent Victoria in the under13 girls’ cricket team at the Primary Schools Cricket Exchange competition to be held at CobramBarooga in January.
Georgi was nominated by her club Hallora after a cracking season in the local under12s team.
A series of tryouts, selections and cutoffs followed, but Georgi’s deadly accuracy and length saw her make it to the final playing squad.
Georgi’s family, including dad Evan, uncles David and Grant and grandfather John, all played for Lang Lang.
Evan, David and Grant are all former Country Week players for West Gippsland.
Georgi now travels to Melbourne once a month for state training, along with her team mates, to allow players to become used to one another and to help with team balance.
To help cover her expenses on the trip to Cobram, Lang Lang Cricket Club donated $150.
Georgi said she would use the kind donation to complete her collection of cricketing equipment.
“I’ll buy some new pads and a helmet,” she said.
Georgi began playing only two years ago after filling in for her brother’s side when the team was short.
Now Georgi is ready to compete against some of Victoria’s best young women cricketers.
“It’s going to be tough, there are some good players in the team, some of them had to travel three hours to training,” she said.
Georgi is playing for the Hallora under14 side this year and has got the season off to a good start.
“I clean bowled a batsmen last Saturday. We need 100 runs to win this weekend,” she explained.
