IT’S sometimes easier to go to a nursery and pick a European favourite than delve into the native section, but a massive native plant giveaway will make picking the right indigenous plant easy and free for Cardinia residents next month.
Nestle at Pakenham is working with the council to green Cardinia and provide a lush habitat for local wildlife, with a native plant giveaway available to all residents.
The company has invested $22,000 into the plant giveaway through the Nestle Community Environment Program, which works to improve local environments in communities where the company operates.
With the help of the Cardinia Shire Council and local Landcare members, Nestle will give away 15,000 plants from three collection points.
Trees will be available between 9am and 5pm on October 6, 7 and 8, from the Coles foyer, Pakenham, in Main Street, Emerald, next to the Commonwealth Bank, and in Main Street, Kooweerup, next to the Anglican Church.
Nestle Factory manager Raj Gopal said it was rewarding to be able to work with the council to make a difference to the local environment.
“I hope every resident takes advantage of the plant giveaway to help create a flourishing native habitat in their backyards throughout Cardinia Shire,” he said.
To qualify for the giveaway you must be a Cardinia resident and bring along the brochure from the September edition of Cardinia Connect or other proof of residence in the shire.
Local Landcare members and the council environment team will be able to advise residents on what plant is best for their garden.
For more information contact the Cardinia Shire environment department on 5945 4222.
